Peek Pro is B2B platform helping travel businesses manage their operations. I designed a tipping experience to help increase employee income.

Economic decline that heavily
disrupted the travel industry.

As the pandemic unfolded, travel operators were struggling to stay afloat. Operators were finding it difficult to retain their workforce without raising wages. I helped create a tipping feature for travel operators where:

  • Employees averaged a double digit tip on top of their pay

  • 6 figures in tips were generated within a year

  • The tipping functionality became patented

This case study is a concise overview. Additional details available upon request.

Sign or tap—
experimenting the differences.

In the early phases, I explored ways to collect a tip. The intention was to examine tapping vs signing when tipping as a paying customer. I tested some of these concepts with internal members, travel employees, and a few passerby customers. Signing was most favored due to it's feeling of confirmation and familiarity.

Increasing flexibility to improve
the tip amount for employees.

During research, operators had slightly different use cases. Tip amounts were made to be configurable to help with calculating tips. Operators could adjust the preset amounts, display fixed/percentage amounts, or disable the custom tip option.

Designing with versatility to democratize
access for all types of travel businesses.

During research, we learned operators needed to collect tips before or after an experience happened. The tipping flow was then designed to remain the same regardless of time a tip would be collected. On the backend, operators were provided the ability configure how a tip is calculated to fit their business. We slightly altered the UI to reflect how a customer's tipping was being calculated.
